Algonquin Highlands Mayor says challenge of attracting workers to the area is nothing new

Algonquin Highlands politicians realize businesses need help in recruiting staff.

Council was asked last week by the Haliburton Highlands Chamber of Commerce for $2,000 towards a video that employers can send to perspective employees to promote living and working in the county.

According to a chamber report, there were 183 job postings in the county as of November 10th.

Mayor Carol Moffatt says the challenge of bringing qualified workers to the area is nothing new.

Moffatt also says a video highlighting the region is a good start but it is only one recruiting tool.

The chamber has asked each municipal council as well as the county for a total of $10,000 towards the videos.

All councils have said they will consider the request in their budget discussions in 2018.
