OPP reminds snowmobile riders to stay safe on trails this winter

The OPP along with the S.A.V.E. Unit is making sure you have safe winter fun.
S.A.V.E is the OPP’s Snow Vehicle, ATV, and Vessel Enforcement Unit. Its main role is to keep area snowmobile trails and frozen waterways safe. With local trails beginning to open officers will be out in full force making sure you follow the rules. Police are reminding snowmobilers that a few simple precautions can help you avoid tragedy. Obeying speed limits and trail signs, and using hand signals to help other riders know what you’re doing is a good start  The OPP also reminds you to never drive impaired, never drive alone, and always tell someone where you’re going.

OPP Sergeant Rick Mackay urges you to treat your snowmobile with respect and care and to ride safely and within your skill level.

For more information on snowmobile safety and to keep track of trail conditions, go to Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs website.
