Outdoor hockey will be played in Head Lake Park in July.

That’s when the World Soap Hockey Championships come to Haliburton for its inaugural tournament.

Soap hockey is played on a giant tarp covered in water and liquid soap adding a challenging element to the game.

It has teams of six, with three on the tarp at once.

Soap Hockey Championship Organizer and Owner John Teljeur says he got the idea from a YouTube video.

Teljeur adds the primary goal of the weekend tournament is to bring more tourists to Haliburton.

The tournament will be the weekend of July 6th.

Registration is not open as of yet.
