An extreme cold warning is back in effect for Haliburton County.

Environment Canada has put the warning out as we could be seeing temperatures dropping to minus 30 without the wind chill tonight and minus 40 with it.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says although we have seen cold arctic blasts of air in the past, it’s the size of this outbreak is what stands out.

The extreme cold is expected to stick around until Sunday morning, with a brief break early next week before the frigid air returns.

Environment Canada says to cover up when outside, as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin.
