Haliburton County is including food as part of its tourism strategy going forward.
The county’s Tourism Committee met last week to discuss its strategy to attract more visitors to the region this year.
County Tourism Director, Amanda Virtanen says she wants to connect with some of the big food producers in the county to promote culinary tourism.
Virtanen says part of the strategy is to make tourists aware of Haliburton’s variety as a dining destination.
She says the county offers much for tourists from traditional ma and pa restaurants to craft beer.
Virtanen also mentions that the county applied for a $15,000 grant under Ontario’s Regional Economic Development fund.
The application was sent it September, and Virtanen says she is still waiting to hear from the province.
