Municipalities can now allow electronic participation in council meetings

Municipalities can now decide if they want to allow members of council to attend meetings electronically.

The Modernizing Ontario’s Municipal Legislation Act allows councils to now make that decision, including being able to vote without being at the table.

Highlands East Mayor Dave Burton says when he was incapacitated for three months last year, he was able to attend meetings via skype.

Burton says council wants to see a draft bylaw before making any decisions.
