M.P. Jamie Schmale reminding county businesses and not-for-profit organziations to apply for summer jobs funding

Jamie Schmale is encouraging small businesses and not-for-profits in the county to apply for funding.

The Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes, Brock M.P. says the Canada Summer Jobs grant program is accepting applications.

The grant, available through Employment and Social Development Canada, offers funding to organizations with 50 or fewer employees for summer work for students.

Schmale says with the minimum wage now at $14 an hour, the money can help organizations offset some of that cost.

According to the government’s website, areas that have high seasonal summer populations, like Haliburton, would be given more consideration.

Last year, Schmale says almost $681,000 in federal money was handed out to businesses that hired summer students.

The deadline to apply is February 2nd.
