The Haliburton Highlands Chamber of Commerce wants to see reduced taxes for small businesses. The local chamber is partnering with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce in making 11 recommendations to the province for the 2018 budget.
Haliburton Chamber President Richard Wannan says a reduction in the corporate tax rate from 11.5 per cent to 10 per cent, as well as creating small business deduction tax brackets, are two priorities he is focused on.
Wannan says a business that brings in $100,000 shouldn’t be taxed at the same rate as a business that brings in much larger profits.
According to Stats Canada, a small business is one that has under 100 employees, which accounts for over 97 per cent of enterprises in Ontario.
He did not have specific numbers but Wannan did add that small businesses are the lifeline of the Haliburton economy.
