Haliburton County is looking to improve public transit for the region.
County council agreed to fund a $50,000 consultation for a community transportation plan, which will be in the 2018 budget.
Community Transportation Project Coordinator Tina Jackson and her colleague Sue Shikaze made a presentation to council.
Jackson says when it comes to transportation problems, there isn’t a blanket solution.
According to the presentation, there are services that help take patients to doctors’ appointments.
Jackson adds the real shortage in transportation is helping employees get to work, or specific job training.
Jackson told council she expects a plan would cost $192,000 once implemented and says ride fares and sponsorship opportunities could help offset the cost.
