Septic inspection program becomes the law in Algonquin Highlands

Septic system inspections in Algonquin Highlands are now the law.

Council passed a bylaw yesterday making the septic re-inspection mandatory.

Mayor Carol Moffatt says the township will have an information session on the program in May.

The township also hired five qualified inspectors.

Moffatt says the cost will likely be under $180 and property owners will be billed for the inspection.

Councillor Liz Danielsen asked what would happen if someone needed to replace their entire system and they couldn’t afford it.

Moffatt says there will be more discussion on that in the near future.

Moffatt has said in the past that lake health is critical to the township’s economy.
