Algonquin Highlands is unsure how it will be able add affordable housing to the area.

The Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton Housing Corporation made a presentation to council last week talking about tools to encourage developers to build affordable real estate.

Among the tools suggested by the housing corporation include tax incentives to build as well as expediting the permit approval process for affordable properties.

Mayor Carol Moffatt says the township isn’t in a position to offer perks for building affordable units.

Moffatt adds there is no harm in making the public aware of the incentives that are available.

Housing corporation Manager Hope Lee will be in Minden Hills council chambers on Thursday to make a similar presentation.
