Money included in budget to bring more high speed internet to rural areas

The federal budget calls for more spending on improving broadband coverage in rural areas.

The budget is earmarking $100 million over five years to help close the gaps, with many of them being in Haliburton County.

Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes, Brock M.P. Jamie Schmale says he is glad to see the money being invested but wants to see it flow faster.

Haliburton County is part of the Eastern Ontario Regional Network, and its mandate is to close high speed and cell phone gaps in rural areas.

E.O.R.N. representatives have said they hope to have those gaps closed within five years, but are awaiting approval from both upper levels of government to get started.
