Laurie Scott is reflecting on the important role women play in our society.

The Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes, Brock M.P.P. says with tomorrow being International Women’s Day, it’s a day to recognize and appreciate all women.

Scott adds with her work on making the public aware of the crime of human trafficking, today carries significant weight.

Scott’s Saving the Girl Next Door Act was passed into law in Queen’s Park on May 18th.

The bill expands supports services to victims of human trafficking, and also allows victims to sue their handlers for damages.

Scott adds the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day focuses on females in rural communities.

Scott also suggests people pause and think about women who are living in countries where women do not enjoy the same freedom like Canada.
