Minden Hills reducing hours at Ingoldsby and Scotchline Waste Disposal Sites

Minden Hills residents will have fewer opportunities to throw out the trash. Council passed a bylaw last week which slashes summer hours at the Ingoldsby Transfer Station by one hour daily. This means that the station will be open on weekends, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The original time was from noon until 8:00 p.m. The station’s winter hours will remain the same.

The Scotch Line landfill will on Wednesdays during summer hours. When it comes to Minden’s landfill operations, summer hours are in effect between May 1st and September 30th. Mayor Brent Devolin says the township has collected significant user data on all its landfill sites and says adjusting the hours at the Ingoldsby and Scotch Line sites is the best way to help save money.

Environmental & Property Operations Manager Ivan Ingram says the changes will add up to $17,905 in savings from the reduced hours. The hours will come into effect on July 1st this year.

Other aspects of the bylaw include changing the name of all sites to Waste Disposal Sites and Recycling Centres. The bylaw also covers what items are considered acceptable, what items can be tossed away on hazardous waste days, as well as what materials are recyclable.
