Sandbags available for Minden Hills residents concerned about flooding

If you’re seeing water rising around your home or cottage, you can get sand or sandbags from the Township of Minden Hills. The township is making the resource available for residents who are worried about the recent rain and melting snow. Residents that have property in areas susceptible to flooding should take the proper steps to protect their homes and continue to monitor the conditions, according to township officials.

You can pick up sand and sandbags at the following location:

  • Furnace Falls Park – Front Turnaround – County Road 503

The township says it’s self-serve, so bring a shovel with you and also think of your neighbours or anyone around you that may have difficulty filling up bags. You can also find out more about how to fill the bags on the Minden Hills website.

The Ministry of Natural Resources has a flood outlook in place for the Bancroft District, which includes the Irondale River. The MNRF says the recent rain and snowmelt could cause nuisance flooding on roads, along with in ditches and low-lying areas. Minden Hills says to be careful around lakes, rivers, creeks, and other waterways including ditches. It says the high water levels and swift currents can create dangerous conditions.

You can stay up-to-date with the conditions on the township’s website.
