NewsPolice warning of “distraction thefts” in the area SHARE ON: Patrick Grapes, contributor, Thursday, Jun. 21st, 2018 The OPP is warning of a new scam. Police say they’ve received reports of distraction thefts in the area. It was reported that an older man with a European accent approaches his victims in the parking lot of local businesses holding a 20 dollar bill. The victims thinking they dropped 20 dollars open their wallet and the man places the 20 dollars in their wallet at the same time removing their debit card. Later the victims notice that money is withdrawn from their account using their Personal Identification Number. Police remind the public to cover your PIN, make sure no one is watching or in close proximity to you and never say your PIN out loud for anyone to hear.
