OPP searching for man after suspected drowning

The Peterborough County OPP is investigating what it believes to be a drowning.

Emergency crews were called to Pigeon Lake in the Municipality of Trent Lakes just after 6:00pm last night.

The OPP says a 40-year-old man was swimming off his houseboat with friends. The man was trying to help a woman swimmer who was struggling in the water. She made it back onto the boat, but he did not. Right now he is “unaccounted for.”

The OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, as well as marine units from the Peterborough County OPP and the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP, are helping with the search. We’ll have more details as they become available.
