Forest fires burning at record numbers

Ontario is experiencing a large number of forest fires this year.

Currently, there are 105 active forest fires burning according to the Ministry of Natural Resources. On average Ontario sees 344 a year, and up to this point, the province has seen 578 forest fires.

Although there are no forest fires burning in Haliburton County, there is still a complete fire ban in place to reduce the risk of these numbers continuing to grow, and the vast majority of Ontario is under a high or extreme risk warning.

The closest fire to Haliburton County is southeast of Kinmount, near highway 507. Anyone looking to track the fires province-wide can go to ontario.ca and use the interactive map.
