Survey: Seniors Not Wanting to Sell

According to a survey done by national research firm IPSOS, 93% of Canadians 65 or older feel it is important to stay in their current homes through their retirement years.

The vast majority of Haliburton County is made up of people of retirement age, and many feel that they would not sell their home. Some felt that after sinking years of renovations and work into their homes, selling now would be a betrayal of the work that had been done. Other retirees are opposed to selling simply because they had previously sold their homes elsewhere to move to the county and live out their years here.

The survey also says that more than half of people aged 75 and older declared it was important to stay close to family.  That same group of 75 and up said that there are far too many emotional attachments and memories attached to their homes
