Highway 118 might see a 60km/h zone added

The Municipality of Dysart Et Al is hoping to reduce the 80km/h zone on Highway 118.

Dysart submitted an application to the Ministry of Transportation hoping to extend the 50km/h stretch near the Fred Jones Road area. The hope is to make things for drivers getting on and off Highway 118 safer.

The ministry has yet to approve the application but reported receiving it, and is currently reviewing all the data associated with the application. If it is accepted, they will implement a 60km/h zone as a transition area.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, the stopping distance of the average vehicle at 80km/h is 60 metres or 180 feet. Drivers caught going 20km/h over the speed limit will be fined upwards of $95.00 and three demerit points.
