HKPR offers tips to swim safely

The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge Health Unit is reminding cottagers and residents to swim safely.

With summer in full swing, and Haliburton County having 600+ lakes, the HKPR wants anyone hitting the water with their kids to do so safely. According to Parachute Canada, the best ways to swim safely with your children is to always have adult supervision, use life jackets on anyone that is not a strong swimmer, and take children for swimming lessons.

Parachute also encourages parents to get trained in CPR to help save lives. New swimmers and children who are swimming in a lake for the first time should be taught about the current in your lake or river and how it affects your ability to swim.

Swimming with supervision or with a buddy system is the number one recommendation to prevent drowning.
