Health Unit Offering Playground Safety Tips

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Health Unit wants to make sure your kids make it through the summer unscathed.

With that in mind, HKPR Health Unit tweeted out a link to some playground safety tips by a group called Parachute. Parachute is a charitable organization that says it’s dedicated to preventing injuries and saving lives.

The group says that playgrounds are great for children to build healthy relationships with their peers and learn societal roles through play, but they do come with the risk of injury. According to Parachute, if a child is too small to get on the playground equipment without help, then the playground is too big for the kid.

As well, Parachute says to look out for broken glass and other sharp objects, show children how to use the equipment and act as a spotter if there are heights involved. When letting a child go down a slide, Parachute suggests waiting for them at the bottom of the slide or going with them.

Despite the risks, the HKPR Health Unit says that summertime is a great time to get out on the playground.
