Unsafe Boating Carries a Heavy Price

With the long weekend here, the OPP is reminding you that unsafe boating carries a heavy price.

The Kawartha Lakes OPP says that they laid several charges while patrolling the waters this week and they will be patrolling waters over the weekend.

You could be handed fines for a number of reasons. Having an open liquor container will cost you $125, operating a boat with safety equipment, not in good working order carries a $240 fine, no spotter when towing is a $305 fine, and operating a vessel with a license is also a $305 fine.

Aside from boat-related infractions, people caught fishing without a license could see fines from the Ministry of Natural Resources. The OPP wants to remind boaters that safety begins with them and that the operator of the boat can set an example for the passengers.
