False Alarm calls for Fire Department Take Time Away from Real Emergencies

In late July, the Dysart Fire Department responded to a false alarm call in the Kennisis Lake area which pulled them away from an emergency call.

The Kennisis Lake Cottage Owners Association reported that on July 23rd firefighters were called to a smoke alarm going off. It was later found out that the alarm system had just malfunctioned.

Mike Iles the Dysart et al Fire Chief urges that everyone with alarm systems take steps to prevent this from happening, by having your alarm inspected annually, updating the contact info with a phone number you can be reached at 24/7, and calling the alarm company yourself if there is no reason to dispatch emergency services.

Iles says that it is good to make sure that someone can open your home or cottage if you’re away. That way if an alarm sounds they can let the authorities in without the need to break in the doors.
