OPP reminds drivers of traffic laws during back to school

There’s one rule during back to school you’re going to want to remember or you could be facing a hefty fine. Haliburton Highlands OPP Constable Paul Potter is reminding everyone about school buses on the road again. The law is that drivers traveling both ways must stop for buses when their red lights are flashing and the arm is extended. You could be facing a fine of up to $490 and six demerit points if you’re caught not following the rules.

OPP is also reminding drivers that a lot of students in our area are walking to school and aren’t always aware of the dangers of the road. Potter says it’s also the responsibility of drivers to keep their eyes open and keep roads safe for the kids.
