Haliburton Midwives Celebrating 10 Years

Midwifery is celebrating 10 years in Haliburton and Bancroft.

September 9th, the midwife service will be celebrating their anniversary with past and present clients with face painting, games, and prizes. Also planned for the event is a bouncy castle and lunch provided by the midwifery team. The Midwifery Services of Haliburton and Bancroft are asking people to RSVP with the Office Administrator by calling in or emailing them in advance of the event.

The four-hour event starts at 11:00 AM at the Harcourt Community Centre in Dysart et al

The My Haliburton Now newsroom spoke to Rebecca Weeks, a registered midwife with the service, and says that midwives are primary health care providers up to 6 weeks after the birth of the child. She also says that they have been fully funded and regulated by the Ministry of Health since 1994.

Weeks says that the midwifery service has delivered 90 babies so far this year, and believes that they have delivered close to 500 babies in their 10 years of service. She was unsure of the number because the service averaged out to roughly 60-70 babies a year for the first five years than 70-80 for the next four.
