Legion Week Coming to Haliburton

The Haliburton Legion is celebrating Legion Week with a special flag raising.

Legion Week is an annual event across the country to commemorate the Royal Canadian Legion and the work that they do. To celebrate the Legion, the Haliburton Branch is raising the Legion’s flag at the AJ Larue Arena in Haliburton Village. The flag will be flying from the arena from the 17th to the 22nd.

The annual event started in 1953 when a group of Legionnaires banded together to spread awareness about what the Legion does. The work of the Legion includes a variety of charities to raise funds for Canadian veterans, money raised for medical equipment and bursary programs.

Linda Heeps with Branch 129 says that after the flag raising, the Haliburton Legion is inviting people to come into the club room for refreshments and info on what the Legion does locally. The Legion has 275,000 members total across 1,400 branches.
