September is Big Brothers Big Sisters Month

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kawartha Lakes-Haliburton is reminding people that September is BBBS Month.

Across the country, all of the branches of Big Brothers Big Sisters are celebrating all month by raising awareness of the organization. Jim DeFlorio, the Executive Director of BBBS Kawartha Lakes-Haliburton, says “it’s really about us getting the word out there” about the mentorship programs and other services they offer.

“There are so many young people in our community that could benefit from having a mentor in their life,” says DeFlorio, adding that volunteers are always needed.  Right now there are 11 children waiting for mentors to be matched to them.

According to DeFlorio, BBBS month has been celebrated for over 10 years saying that the bigger areas like Toronto will light up the CN Tower in the colour purple in honour of the month.
