MPP Laurie Scott on $15 Billion Deficit: “Work needs to be done”

Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock MPP Laurie Scott says the Progressive Conservative Government is going to have to fix what the former Liberal Government has done.

Last week, it was announced that the Liberals left Ontario with a $15 billion deficit. Scott says that the announcement of the deficit is “quite shocking,” and that it “is proof that the Liberal Government lied,” adding “they said that they were going to do programs for political purposes, without any reasonable way to fund these projects.”

Scott says that they are working to “get the fiscal house in order.” She says that the government is going through the ministry to clear any waste and get spending under control. Scott told My Haliburton Now that “we have a huge debt of $338 billion,” She added that right now every Ontarian has a debt on them of $24,000, including newborn babies.

Scott explained that the PC Government is working to sort out the budget. “It is going to be a struggle to get this debt and deficit under control,” said Scott when asked about how this will affect the taxpayer.

The first step says Scott, is to help the lowest income people. Scott says that there is a plan already underway to save the taxpayer money, by streamlining and updating ministries, as well as increasing efficiency. Scott also says that ministries “are delivering upon what they can trim from their budget.”
