HHHS facing $250K Deficit

The Haliburton Highlands Health Services isĀ $250,000 in the red.

This announcement comes from the health service’s board meeting earlier this week. Carolyn Plummer, the CEO of HHHS, said that as of July they are facing this deficit in part because of the on-going cost of the long-term care homes.

She also said that the recent change in government has frozen some revenue. Plummer added that the increased costs associated with implementing Bill 148, The Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, has also had an effect.

Plummer says that the management team at the hospital has already created an action plan to deal with the deficit adding that they are hopeful the budget will be balanced by March 31st, 2019, the end of its fiscal year.

The action plan will help HHHS mitigate growing labour and supply costs. Plummer says that the plan is expected to take advantage of the new investments into long-term cares.
