The HKPR district health unit is asking Haliburton County candidates to think about health in this year’s election. They’ve launched the Rethink Health campaign to promote the fact that decisions by local governments have an effect on people’s health.
Social Determinants of Health nurse Kristina Nairn says our health is connected to where we live. She says the root causes of health and well-being can be housing, income and education. Things like a poverty-reduction strategy, housing options and fair living wages are all a part of a healthy community and she is hoping our local candidates will bring that to focus in this year’s election.
