PSWs in Minden call on provincial government for support

Personal support workers in Minden and across the province are still facing problems from government cutbacks from the 90s. A report released by the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions found that 97 percent of PSWs said heavy workloads and not enough staff are the reasons they can’t provide adequate care to residents in long term care facilities. The report also states there is only one personal support worker to fifteen residents in long term care facilities in Ontario. Dorothy Winterburn is a PSW in Minden and she says it’s a big problem and it’s only getting worse, especially in our area. Two town hall meetings will be scheduled in the next month to inform people about the issues and get support to demand change from the provincial government.
