Scott Announces Funding for Haliburton County

Ontario being “open for business” has led to funding for Haliburton County.

The Minister of Labour and Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock MPP Laurie Scott announced today that the Ontario Government will be funding three separate projects in Haliburton County.

Scott made the announcement from the Abby Retreat Centre in West Guilford, which is one of the organizations getting funding. Abby Retreat Centre is getting $55,300 to fund the second phase of renovating the centre. Some of the renovations planned for the retreat include commercial kitchen upgrades, renovations to the lower garage, as well the funds are expected to help training for leadership.

Also at the Retreat Centre was Minden Hills Mayor Brent Devolin and members of the town council. Scott announced that Minden Hills is getting $33,500 for their Community Improvement Plan, and more specifically the revitalization of the downtown core.

The final announcement was that the Ontario Government was going to be giving $5,000 to the Haliburton Highlands Chamber of Commerce. This funding is for the chamber to hire a consultant to create a marketing video.

Scott says “Our government is proud to support projects that help to grow jobs and open the doors to economic development in rural communities. Ontario has a first-class agri-food and agriculture sector, and I’m pleased to be able to help our community identify their economic strengths and develop strategies that can attract business and investment.”

According to Scott’s office, this is one of 80 Rural Economic Development Projects to be approved.
