Dysart looking at using Accessibility Fund for wheelchair beach access

Dysart et al is trying to make one of its beaches more accessible for people in wheelchairs.

Beaches around Haliburton County are popular destinations in the summer months, and Dysart et al is hoping to use a fund to make one of the municipally owned beaches accessible for people in wheelchairs.

The Municipality has applied for funding through the Enabling Accessibility Fund. The goal of the funding is to install a mat that goes onto the sand at the beach allowing wheelchair-bound people to get down to the water without the fear that their chair will sink into the sand.

According to an email from Employment and Social Development Canada sent to the CAO of Dysart, Tamara Wilbee, the municipality has been selected to receive funding as long as it is still within the eligibility criteria.

The email also says that all projects getting funding will be listed on the ESDC website.
