Hike Haliburton getting a “Winter Edition”

Haliburton County’s popular hiking festival is getting another event called Hike Haliburton: Winter Edition.

The winter edition of the event was pitched to Haliburton County council shortly after the council was sworn into office, but the name and date of it were up in the air until the county council meeting earlier today.

Amanda Virtanen, the Director of Tourism, brought the idea forward as an idea to create even more tourism in the area through the winter. As of now, the winter edition is scheduled for the second weekend in February of 2020. The exact contents of the winter event are still up in the air, but Virtanen suggested the name based on the fact that the weather will play a factor in what happens at the event, so calling it the winter edition keeps the event broad.

Although the county is contracting out the management of the event, Virtanen said at an earlier meeting of council that she had applied for the Celebrate Ontario funding in hopes of getting money to further promote both the winter and summer Hike Haliburton events.

Yours Outdoors, the company also responsible for Hike Haliburton is expected to be contracted to handle the organization and execution of the winter edition.
