Minden Hospital reports a double digit increase in staff vaccinations

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Health Unit is sharing that local hospitals ‘answered the call to arms.’

HKPR announced today that local hospitals in their jurisdiction saw a 7.9 per cent increase in staff vaccinations. Locally speaking, the health unit says the Haliburton Highlands Health Services Minden location saw a 14 per cent increase from 2017 to 2018.

According to HKPR, 66.7 per cent of the staff at the Minden Hospital were vaccinated in 2017, whereas in 2018 that number jumped to 81.3 per cent.

The health unit notes that the HHHS Haliburton location vaccination percentage went down in 2018, but add that two-thirds of the staff still got vaccinated.

This flu season the health unit launched the first ever ‘Lets Flight Flu’ Challenge. The challenge was issued to the area hospitals with the winner getting bragging rights. Dr. Lynn Noseworthy, a Medical Officer of Health with HKPR, says “we commend local hospital staff for rolling up their sleeves to get their flu shots this influenza season,” adding “doctors, nurses and other hospital workers provide important care to vulnerable patients who are experiencing serious health issues, so it’s heartening to see so many getting their flu shot this year.”

The health unit says that Minden, Campbellford and Coburg all saw an increase in vaccinations, with the Lindsay location being on par.
