The local restaurant Mckecks is making a donation to the Haliburton County Snowmobile Association.
For the second year in a row, Aaron and Melissa Walker the owners of Mckeck’s Tap and Grill presented a cheque to the snowmobile association. On hand for the cheque presentation was David Lloyd, the President of the association, who says the $1,000 donation will most likely be used for grooming the trails for tourism and Vice President Craig Bowker says the board will talk about where to best use the money at their next board meeting. According to Bowker, last year’s $1,500 donation was sprinkled around, with a large portion of it going to health and safety.
Bowker made a point of commending the restaurant for their donation, adding that they just give to the association because they know the impact that snowmobiling has on winter tourism in the area.
According to Lloyd, although the use for the money is not set in stone, the trails are “where we want them to be,” he says that about 80 percent of the 371 kilometres of trails they look after are open. Lloyd explains that although the weather has been problematic, the association has staked lakes so even when trails are not usable, riders can enjoy the lakes.
