A teen starting her own business has gotten her recognition from the Ontario Community Newspaper Association.

Morgan Burke, a 15-year-old from Haliburton, as well as 12 other young people aged nine to 17 have been named as the OCNA’s Ontario Junior Citizen award winners.

OCNA says the award is given to young people for their leadership, creativity, determination, generosity and the desire to make a difference.

Burke won the award because the young entrepreneur started her own business. Burke began bottling and selling honey. OCNA says that Burke took courses at Trent University, and began selling the honey a local markets and traveled to Toronto to sell the honey there.

Burke also sold her honey as part of the Haliburton Highlands Health Services Radiothon. She raised over $1,200 for the radiothon.

OCNA reports that Burke has accomplished all of this while continuing to get honour roll grades.
