Firefighters are recovering from a pair of calls on the same day.
Fire Chief Mike Cavanaugh confirmed that the Algonquin Highlands firefighters responded to two separate fires on Friday.
According to Cavanaugh, the first fire was at 2:00pm of a structure fire on Boshkung Lake just north of Carnarvon. Cavanaugh says with mutual aid from Minden and Dysart, they were able to put out the fire that was “well-developed” on their arrival. The house was a total loss says Cavanaugh, who also says there were no injuries to the homeowners or the firefighters.
The second fire call came in around 10:40pm. Chief Cavanaugh says the department was called to an address Kawagama Lake. This fire was started with a hot tub and extended to the outside of the home, again Cavanaugh reported there were no injuries. The damage is minimal, the fire department estimates the damage totalled $30,000.
Fire Department Officials emphasize the importance of working smoke alarms.
