The county is looking to hire some students for the roads department through the summer.
Haliburton County staff announced that they are looking to hire some students to act as a seasonal flag person. According to the county, whoever gets the job will be paid $17.05.
Anyone that applies will need to have their grade 12 or equivalent, training with a chainsaw, the ability to operate heavy machinery and understand the maintenance and safety instructions. As well the students will need to be able to demonstrate a proper understanding of doing the work safely.
County staff say that as a seasonal flag person the student will be involved in installing guard rails posts and signs, flagging traffic on job sites, patch roads, clear ditches, remove beaver dams and other roadside work.
Staff say that 50-75% of the workload is heavy lifting and other aspects of manual labour. As well they say that the people will need to deal with the noises from the various equipment, the heat, bugs, dust, the smell of motors running and the risk of injury.
