Suspect arrested and charged after running from a RIDE check

A man from Kitchener is facing charges after running from the police during a RIDE stop.

The Haliburton Highlands O.P.P. were conducting a RIDE check on Highway 35 in Minden Monday when they stopped a truck towing a trailer and three snowmobiles.

According to the police, officers saw a violation of the Highway Traffic Act and asked the driver to pull off to the shoulder when they attempted to drive away crashing into a tree and the guard rail.

Constable Amanda Gilbert says that is when the suspect left the truck and tried running away on foot and ended up injuring himself. Gilbert says that the suspect was taken to a hospital and two of the snowmobiles and the trailer were all stolen from a local residence and the third snowmobile was stolen from Drumbo Ontario two days before.

The 34-year-old was charged with running from the police, driving without a licence, the use of plates not authorized for the vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving with cannabis, no red light on the back of the trailer, possession of property obtained through crime over $5,000 and possession of property obtained through crime under $5,000.

They were held for a bail hearing on Monday.
