Time running out to nominate women for Education Awards, says YWCA

YWCA Peterborough Haliburton is encouraging people to nominate women trying to better their lives.

Members of the public can enter the women in their lives for an award to “drastically change their lives”. According to YWCA the Hazel Education Award is given to women who have experienced barriers in life through violence and abuse, are residents of Haliburton County or Peterborough, and finally, they need to be trying to further their education.

YWCA says the winner of the Hazel award will get up to $1,000, and women in rural areas will get special consideration.

The deadline to nominate someone is March 11th.

Another award according to YWCA, is the Long-Term Education Award. This award is given to women who are survivors of abuse that can demonstrate the need for financial support and are registered for school in the 2019-2020 school year.

According to YWCA this award can be renewed up to four years and offers up to $2,000 a year.

The deadline to apply is May 6th.
