SIRCH offering tips to keep up maternal mental health

SIRCH Communuity Services is trying to make pregnancy slightly less taxing on the mother’s mental health.

The community-focused entity is using its Twitter page to share some tips for moms to keep their cool in an otherwise stressful time. According to SIRCH, when thinking of their mental health, mothers should consider the acronym NESTS, which stands for Nutrition, Exercise, Sleep, Time for yourself, and Support.

With nutrition being the first aspect of the NESTS thought process, SIRCH says that eating breakfast will help moms overall health. In a post shared to the SIRCH Twitter page, it is important for the mother’s post-partum health to get a lot of nutrients, including vitamin D.

In terms of checking off the exercise portion, SIRCH encourages moms to get outdoors with the child. They say that fresh air and exercise will help you feel better and can help you sleep at night.

And speaking of sleep, to check off the S in the NESTS method, SIRCH recommends resting when you can and trying to do a swing shift with your partner to try and maximize the amount of sleep you get.

According to SIRCH a way to take time for yourself is to do things for yourself as well as your loved ones. SIRCH says “You are just as important as the people you care for.”

The final suggestion is to ask for help from those around you and make use of the support system in place.
