Freezing rain warning for Haliburton and area in effect

A freezing rain warning has just been issued for Haliburton and area.

This includes Haliburton, Minden, Southern Haliburton County, Oxtongue Lake, Fort Irwin, and Northern Haliburton County.

Environment Canada advises that people should be prepared for adverse weather conditions and to take necessary safety precautions.

The freezing rain is expected to begin Sunday and persist through the late afternoon. The temperature will drop to minus one setting the table for the frozen precipitation. A transition to rain is then expected before a change back to snow Sunday late in the day.

Sunday will see the temperature rise to plus five.

A westerly wind is expected to develop on Sunday with gusts from 80 to 90 km per hour creating blowing snow. The strong winds are expected to continue through Sunday night before finally diminishing on Monday.

Flurries totaling five to 10 cm are possible by Monday morning with the risk of blowing snow quite high.
