Minden Hills Hazardous Waste Days returning at a higher cost

Minden Residents are getting another round of Hazardous Waste collection days, at a higher rate than before.

After getting the approval of Minden Hills council, Travis Wilson the Roads Superintendent, is going forward with a contract extension with Buckham Transport for the yearly Hazardous Waste Days.

Wilson says the cost increase would be an extra 25 cents per kilogram for paint, same with flammable liquids, and the administration fee is going up by $200 to $1,200.

According to Wilson, Minden Hills and Algonquin Highlands have agreed to schedule the days for Saturday, May 18th, Saturday, June 22nd, Saturday, August 10th, Saturday, August 31st, and Saturday, October 12th.

Councillor Jean Neville raised a point while talking to Wilson, pointing out that she has heard from taxpayers (one word) that they would like a winter date for waste collection days, saying that they are forced to keep the waste through the winter.

Those concerns were noted and going into the next contract they will be looking at adding a winter date.
