Haliburton-Kawartha homeowners eligible for renovation funds

If you own a home in the area, you could get some financial help renovating it.

The City of Kawartha Lakes announced today that homeowners can apply to get $10,000 loan.

According to Kawartha Lakes Officials, the funding is part of the Ontario Renovates Component of the Investment in Affordable Housing for Ontario – 2014 Extension. The funding stream was designed to help improve people’s living conditions with money to renovate or repair their home. The funds can also be used to create more accessibility in the home.

Kawartha Lakes Manager of Housing, Hope Lee, says “we know there is a tremendous need for this type of funding in our area,” who goes on to say “we’re hoping homeowners will take advantage of this opportunity to create safer and more accessible homes.”

The $10,000 can be used for roofs, plumbing, heating, foundations, wells, septic systems and more. As well, people looking to make their home accessible can apply for a grant of $5,000.

For a person or home to be eligible for the loan, the must be a resident of Haliburton County or the City of Kawartha Lakes. They also need to have proper home insurance and be current with their property taxes and mortgage payments, and their home has to have a market value at or below $409,250.

As well, the household income cannot go beyond each of the limits listed below
