News Local MP Barry Devolin speaks about thoughts during shooting in Ottawa SHARE ON: Smith Autumn, contributor, Thursday, Oct. 23rd, 2014 Local MP Barry Devolin says he’s thought for a long time that security protocols at Parliament Hill have been a little lax. He spoke with Moose FM this morning about what was going through his mind when shots were fired outside the House of Commons where 150 MPs were meeting. He said it’s the first time he’s felt targeted, saying the first thing to go through his mind was that people were there for a reason, and the MPs were that reason. Devolin’s message to his wife that morning said they were possibly in the safest room in Canada. He said officials tried to evacuate them numerous time, but didn’t get them out until 7 hours later.
