Highlands East hosting Earth Day clean up

The Municipality of Highlands East is using Earth Day to clean its portion of the planet.

With the national day just around the corner, the municipality has announced it will be hosting a special Earth Day clean up. On April 27th from 10:00am to 2:00pm, the Gooderham Community Action Group is hosting the event.

If anyone wants to get involved, they can collect garbage from 10:ooam to noon and then make their way to the Robert McCausland Community Centre for hot chocolate and hot dogs. At the Community Centre, organizers say there will be a number of environmentally focused displays. That includes “save the turtles information,” fossil displays, recycling and compost information, and fur traps and fur displays.

Aside from the affair going on at the community centre, Highlands East residents are encouraged to clean up garbage and waste around their community. Gloves and bags can be picked up at the Wilberforce, Cardiff and Gooderham municipal offices. To drop off the garbage, it needs to be dropped off before 1:30pm at the following locations

  • Behind the Wilberforce Fire Hall
  • Beside the Cardiff Fire Hall
  • Behind the Highland Grove Community Centre
  • Under the pavilion at the Robert McCausland Community Centre in Gooderham

After that, the garbage can be taken to one of the landfills.
