Dysart hiring a new planner

Dysart et al is making plans to hire a new planner.

The Municipality announced that it is looking to hire a planner to be working full time.

According to Dysart officials, as the planner, the person’s primary focus is to interpret and apply both the Ontario Planning Act and the Municipal Planning Act, as well as other legislation that pertains to their in house responsibilities. Another task of the planner is to conduct Geographic Information System (GIS) duties as assigned.

As a planner, the person will be responsible for a number of tasks within policy changes including assisting with the review and updating of the Municipal Official Plan, zoning bylaws, and the municipal cultural plan.

From a development control perspective, the planner will need to severance applications, minor variance applications, deeming bylaws among other things.

The administrative tasks include supporting the Committee of Adjustment, the Public Meeting Committee, and the Cultural Resources Committee. As well they need to prepare responses to compliance letters, be ready to answer council questions during meetings and other duties as required.

To qualify for the job, the person will need a university degree in planning or a related field, an understanding of municipal government, knowledge of computer hardware and software, and a demonstrated ability to handle public concerns in a polite a courteous way.
