MNRF extends flood warning to May 1st

Water levels are going to be a concern into next week.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry have extended the flood warning for the area until May 1st.

MNRF issued the warning for the District Municipality of Muskoka, the Territorial District of Parry Sound and a north-west portion of the County of Haliburton.

According to officials, the water levels are expected to stay high as snow and ice continue to melt away. MNRF encourages residents and visitors to keep track of watershed conditions in the area. It is also encouraged to keep an eye on weather conditions and regularly check for updated information. Another suggestion from the MNRF is to be cautious while flood warnings are in effect.

In terms of overall safety, MNRF says that people should be avoiding banks near bodies of water right now as they could be weak and give way. Residents who haven’t already are encouraged to take steps to protect their property if it is prone to flooding in the past.
